The name has its origins in Greek Mythology: the story of Icarus who wanted so badly to fly. His father (Daedalus) designed and made the wings. While the two were on their first flight together Daedalus warned his son not to fly too close to the sun because if he did the wax from which the wings were made would melt. Daedalus landed safely while Icarus` fatal end is well known. If one looks up the word Daedalus in an etymological dictionary the meaning that is given is `super technician`. A description that is perfectly suited to the Daedalus Aviation Group established in Tilburg The Netherlands. The activities of the Daedalus Aviation Group The Daedalus Aviation Group has six different divisions: Daedalus B.V. Daedalus Aviation Services Inc. Daedalus Projects - Trade B.V. Daedalus Personnel Services B.V. Daedalus Components B.V. and Daedalus Avionics B.V.Daedalus B.V. was set up in October 1993 as an administration office for the American company Elsinore Aerospace Services Inc. (EAS). This organization was contracted by the Royal Netherlands Airforce to send technical staff on secondment for maintenance work on F-16 jetfighters. Daedalus B.V. took care of the American colleagues` residence permits accommodation car hire insurance taxation in short: all administrative matters. When the contract with the Airforce was not renewed by EAS Daedalus B.V. decided - in consultation with the parties involved - to continue the EAS activities itself. And so in November 1994 Daedalus Aviation Services Inc. was established in Ogden in the state of Utah. The EAS contracts were subsequently taken over and renewed and since that time the American establishment has taken care of the acquisition selection and secondment of specialized technical personnel for maintenance work on the F-16 fighters belonging to the Royal Netherlands Airforce.Maintenance of F-16s F-27s Apache and Chinook helicoptersAs an ISO-9001-2000 certified company Daedalus has technical specialists of various nationalities in its employ. The company`s activities have now been substantially expanded and in addition to helping to keep F-16`s operational Daedalus also assists with the maintenance of Apache AH-64D Cougar AS532 MKII Lynx and Chinook CH47-D helicopters. The company also provided support for the Royal Netherlands Airforce on Curaçao with the help of so-called Field Teams. These teams worked on the Fokker F-27M aircraft that were stationed there. A number of maintenance engineers have been permanently settled on Curaçao for this purpose and extra teams carried out various special prescribed inspections on a regular basis.International growthAs an expanding company Daedalus would like literally and figuratively to spread its wings even more. In this context a contract was entered into with the Indonesian airforce. This contract concerns the so-called `Falcon Up` program (a life span increasing program) for the Indonesian F-16 fleet which is being carried out on site. A group of 20 people has been seconded to Indonesia to make sure that the project is steered in the right direction. The project was started in June 2000 and was completed in March 2002. This was the first assignment fully under the management of Daedalus. This order can lead to major spin-offs. Now that the project has been successfully completed Daedalus has left its visiting card in an international context. Presently Daedalus is also supporting the Royal Norwegian Air Force in F-16 Flight Line Operations and PHASE InspectionsTrading activitiesDaedalus Projects - Trade B.V. has the agencies for a number of American firms that are suppliers to the aviation industry. The firms that are represented include Elbit Systems Ltd. EFW Inc. Interconnect Wiring LP Texstars Inc. Goodrich Propulsion Systems and Curtiss Wright Flight Systems Inc.This operation is concerned with parts for newly built aircraft as well as replacement parts. In addition to the Royal Netherlands Airforce the Navy and foreign Air Forces airline companies are also potential customers for these products. Daedalus Personnel Services B.V. was started around the middle of 2000 with the objective of providing technical assistance for the civil aviation sector. This new activity is in full swing and specialists are being hired from all over Europe. These specialists then go to work at the various clients` businesses on a temporary employment basis. Because of the often highly specialized nature of the work it is possible that these employees need to be (re)trained or to take special technical courses. To this end agreements have been made with various technical colleges and educational institutionsDaedalus Components B.V. is specialized in sales support and inventory management for turbine engines. Her services include complete management of the maintenance and overhaul of engines for Air Liners. Part of the operation is also the representation of several worldwide acting companies in Europe (for more details see separate leaflets).Daedalus Avionics B.V. started as a joint venture with International Enterprises Inc.
